SHAH ALAM, Feb 23 — The Selangor Syariah Courts solved 26,503 syariah cases last year, said state Chief Syarie Judge Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.
Of the total, he said, 22,213 were ‘mal’ (non-criminal) cases, while 4,290 others were syariah criminal cases.
“The number of the non-criminal cases recorded last year, including matters relating to marriage, divorce and polygamy, was 27,726 and 80 per cent of the cases have been solved.
“Almost 68 per cent of the total 6,282 cases of syariah criminal including ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) have been solved,” he told reporters here today.
He said the achievements had exceeded the targets set which were 75 per cent for non-criminal cases and 60 per cent for criminal cases.
“This year, we are confident to solve 90 per cent of the criminal and non-criminal cases,” he added. — Bernama
