‘M’sians in IS may have been caught by Iraq, Syrian forces’

Top counter-terrorism official Ayob Khan says however, Malaysian fighters might be pretending to be from other countries, hence no update given to police here.

PUTRAJAYA: It is possible some Islamic State (IS)-related Malaysians have been captured by Syrian and Iraqi forces but police have not received any information on the matter, a counter-terrorism official has said.

In the middle of last month, CNN reported that approximately 50 foreign IS fighters had been caught in Iraq and Syria since the start of November, citing a US military official.

Some of the foreign fighters were captured by either the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces or Iraqi security forces as they were attempting to hide in civilian vehicles, the military official said.
