PETALING JAYA: The United States Embassy has given assurance that Malaysians will not be affected by the current executive order banning certain citizens from entering the country.
“Malaysians can continue to travel to the United States with a valid visa,” an embassy spokesman said yesterday.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending refugee entry for 120 days, with Syrian refugees banned indefinitely.
It also bars the visas for 90 days for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries – Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
However, Trump’s plans might be derailed with a US Federal Court judge temporarily halting parts of the executive order late on Saturday.
The president received flak for his move, in particular due to at least two other Muslim-majority countries, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, not being listed as part of the order despite facing terrorism concerns.
The two are said to have business dealings with Trump Organisation.
