Malaysia pledges US$100,000 to rebuild Iraq

Foreign ministry says it is imperative for Malaysia and the international community to mobilise and promote an inclusive approach in Iraq’s reconstruction.

KUWAIT CITY: Malaysia has announced an initial pledge of US$100,000 (RM389,150) for the reconstruction of Iraq.

In a statement, the foreign ministry said the Iraqi people had, for years, endured terrible torment and experienced hardship as the battles against the Islamic State had devastated the country.

“Malaysia realises the complex challenges faced by the Iraqi government.

“The needs can be far more critical than we think. Therefore, it is imperative for us and the international community to mobilise, expedite and promote an inclusive approach in Iraq’s reconstruction.”
