Court upholds 8-year jail for IS man’s brother

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court today upheld the eight-year imprisonment imposed on a former convenience shop storekeeper for dealing with property belonging to his younger brother, Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi, who was a terrorist with the Islamic State (IS) militant group in Syria.

This followed a decision by a panel of five judges, chaired by Appeals Court president Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin, in dismissing the appeal by Mohamed Danny, 31, for the sentence to be reduced.

In the judgment, Zulkefli, sitting with Chief Judge of Malaya Ahmad Maarop and Federal Court judges Ramly Ali, Zaharah Ibrahim and Aziah Ali, said after considering the facts of the case, the court could not simply change the jail sentence, unless it was erroneous in facts and law.
