KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 3 — The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has set up a Shariah and Harmonisation of Law Division to address issues relating to Islam and shariah laws that arise at the federal and international levels.

In a statement issued here today, the AGC states the importance of the division as it would be the focal point for shariah issues referred to the department.

This, it said, is based on Clause (2) Article 145 of the Federal Constitution, where it is the duty of the Attorney-General to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong or the Cabinet or any minister on legal matters.
